Bringing flow to logistics with real-time location data

The logistics of manufacturing are daunting, with massive warehouses and production lines covering – and even separated by – large distances. The challenges logistics teams face in optimising their work can be drastically reduced  through simulation and real-time location data. The four-step FloWide optimisation process offers a new understanding of how goods move around your facilities and help you turn your forklift towards manufacturing efficiency.

1Identifying challenges

Keeping everything flowing smoothly in manufacturing facilities requires a well-oiled machine. Yet that machine faces challenges that seem almost laughable to the untrained eye. Misplaced stock and floor space planning, for example, are enormous  difficulties that can make or break a production line, while solving them can require hundreds of working hours and years of experience. At least, without the help of digitisation and location data.

2Analyzing movements in the virtual space: your shopfloor's digital twin

Once we understand your team's problems, our experts will engage with you to understand how your facility operates. When you share a map with us, we will transform it into a beautiful digital twin. This will include a simulation of all process and  movements, created with our low-code python tools. Approximately 6–10 one hour sessions can be needed to complete this phase. Once ready, your team will have full access to the FloWide platform, be able to re-run simulations with different  parameters, or improve the model by accessing the underlying python program.

3Simulating scenarios and improving the digital twin

Using FloWide technologies you will be able to explore how existing hardware deployments, and newly added sensors could be used better to improve your teams’ efficiency. For example, you will be able to simulate an existing solution in which pickers scan items and locations together. The limitations of this workflow, including the picker’s line of sight, and human error, are also considered. Making changes to the simulation model, your team will see how tracking the picker (or vehicle) moving the pallets provides better results by removing these limitations through real-time location data collected from FloWide tags.

 4Deploying hardware and implementing changes

We believe the simulation to be a success if you can identify solutions that change your operations for the better. When you are ready to dive into the changes, our team will help you deploy any FloWide technologies needed to bring these digital  solutions to your facility. Because we believe in continuous incremental improvement, we’ll move on to your next challenge. For example, consider how newly collected real-time location data could help optimise your warehouse's layout to minimise picker movement and reduce find times. Again relying on the FloWide platform to simulate any scenarios before physical changes are made, the process repeats and makes your manufacturing even more efficient.

Continuous improvement

At FloWide we believe in constant incremental optimisation and improvement. Because of this, we never believe that our work is done and after solving the first challenge, we will continue the hunt for optimal shopfloor and logistics operations. Repeating the FloWide Process as many times as needed and as long as we can bring meaningful change to your shopfloor.
